Inspired by the 2021 inaugural poet Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate, the poets Cati Porter and Louisa Higgins, aka Inlandia’s executive director and the Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator for Riverside County Office of Education, respectively, set to work organizing a brand-new project highlighting teen poets in the region. And thus the Riverside County Teen Poet Laureate project was formed. There were 75 entries total across all districts in the region from which these 27 finalists were drawn. Finalist Katie Xin was named Inaugural Teen Poet Laureate, selected by a jury of regional poets.
